- Summary
- Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius is loyal to emperor Marcus Aurelius, so when the emperor's son murders his father, Maximus refutes him. His family murdered and escaping the executioner himself, Maximus survives and is sold as a gladiator. He returns to Rome seeking vengeance, aided by the emperor's sister, a senator and his fellow gladiators
